NYSSMA is here again!

The New York State School Music Association or NYSSMA is a program that evaluates student musicians in New York State from elementary school through high school. Each spring, thousands of students register through their school music programs to attend NYSSMA Evaluation Festivals where they are adjudicated. These festivals take place at local middle and high schools, as well as state colleges and state universities within the fifteen NYSSMA zones, each of which covers an area in New York State. Well, it is that time again. If you don’t live in New York State, find out about a music program in your state, it will be well worth it. NYSSMA is a great opportunity for student musicians to prepare for a performance in which they will be evaluated. This promotes growth and teaches student about preparation, practice, and performance.

Each year students can advance to the next level of NYSSMA until they reach level 6 where they will be able to audition for All State. NYSSMA for Drummers includes snare drum and drum set evaluations. Student musicians will be evaluated on sight reading, rudiments, and performance. They will be given a score aa well as written comments that they can use to improve. Private teachers can use these scores and comments to continue their students progress.

So find a local music program in your local school and get your child involved in something amazing!
